Where you live

A sequence of lessons aimed at helping children to learn more about the place they live including its history and geography. Although these lessons are based on Ingwavuma (a rural South African village) they can be easily adapted for any village/town or city. The learning includes:

  • Science experiments around evaporation of water
  • Development of question language
  • Interviewing people from the community
  • Comparing past and present development
  • Geographical knowledge  of continents, mountains and rivers
  •  Art project to create Papier Mache globes
  • A class museum to exhibit their work

The Story Writing 1 and Fact file lessons are designed to be taught alongside this topic unit.
